Your trees and shrubs need fertilizer and water just like your lawn does. This helps keep them healthy, vigorous and actively growing making your property beautiful and thereby sustaining the value of your property. It also helps them to fight off attacks from insects, diseases and beetles. Water sustains life. Watering is especially crucial for their survival in the current drought we are experiencing in the Denver CO. metro area. It is extremely dry as we have not had any measurable precipitation for a while and are behind our average which is a very dry climate anyway and that is why it is necessary to irrigate to grow things here. According to Colorado State Cooperative Extension: The trees in Denver are "already stressed from last winter being so dry. And need to be Deep Root watered this winter just to survive." In addition, we have very poor soils; alot of clay and sand which are horrible for growing things in. Deep Root fertilizing, as we do at Wiens Lawncare, also helps aerate the soil over the roots of trees thus allowing air, water and nutrients to get down to them. The feeder roots that take in water and fertilizer nutrients are in the dripline area which is from the outer most circumference of the canopy in to the trunk. That is where you want to fertilize and water your trees. Fertilize once a year and winter water once a month while your sprinkler system is turned off for the winter.
